The inspiration and strategic vision for Ending Spending come from entrepreneur and Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts. A pioneer in the use of technology to reinvent a decades-old system in the financial services sector, Ricketts has now turned his focus to wide-ranging businesses and charitable endeavors. Unable to sit idle in the face of our nation’s growing debt and unsustainable spending practices, Ricketts founded Taxpayers Against Earmarks, which is now known as Ending Spending. The organization’s goal is to foster and develop an active and engaged community of citizens who are concerned about out-of-control government spending and want to act together to fix the problem. Ricketts is committed to making certain that Ending Spending stays true to its nonpartisan mission.
Other important initiatives of Mr. Ricketts and his family include the management of the Chicago Cubs, a film company celebrating extraordinary characters and events from American history (The American Film Company), a digital local news service (DNAInfo.com), the world’s largest bison retailer (High Plains Bison), the premier Wyoming ranch destination (Lodge at Jackson Fork Ranch) and a charitable education foundation (Opportunity Education Foundation).
