Tonight, President Obama made taxpayers against earmarks everywhere very happy.
In his State of the Union address, he declared: “If a bill comes to my desk with earmarks inside, I will veto it.”
We know these are only words for now, but these words were spoken on the world’s most important stage. We will continue to hold the President accountable.
With all the Taxpayer Heroes on board, and the promises of many Republicans and Democrats in both the House and Senate to stand against earmarks, this could be a landmark year for the movement to restore fiscal sanity to our government.
But according to a report from Politico today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid may stand in our way. Click here to read Taxpayers Against Earmarks’ president Brian Baker’s statement from earlier today, applauding the President and urging our leaders in the Senate to do the same.
We’re eager to see what the year ahead will bring. How do you think this will unfold? Join us on Facebook to discuss this with our growing community there.
