January 25, 2011, Washington, D.C. — Brian Baker, President of the non-partisan Taxpayers Against Earmarks, released the following statement in reaction to the news that President Barack Obama will call for a ban on earmarks in the State of the Union Address:
“We applaud President Obama for his call to ban earmarks and look forward to working with the Administration on this important effort. The American people are fed up with the massive federal debt, out-of-control spending and the broken budgeting process in Washington.
“It is unfortunate that Sen. Reid still does not understand and is apparently unwilling to end his addiction to earmarks, even though the American people have spoken loud and clear. Instead of just sitting together tonight, we urge Sen. Reid to work together with his Senate Republican colleagues, members of the House of Representatives and President Obama, who have all pledged to ban earmarks.”
